About Dr. Nicole McGuffin

Psychodynamic therapy for adults and couples seeking deeper self-understanding, healthier relationships, and meaningful emotional change.

The Values Behind Therapy

Depth Over Quick Fixes

Therapy is not only about managing symptoms. It is about understanding the deeper emotional patterns, relationship dynamics, and protective strategies that may be shaping your life.

Curiosity Without Judgment

I approach therapy with care, respect, and curiosity. Together, we look at what feels painful, confusing, or difficult to change without blaming or shaming where you are.

The Past in the Present

Early relationships and experiences can continue to influence how we feel, protect ourselves, and connect with others. Therapy helps bring these patterns into awareness so new choices can become possible.

“Therapy is not about judging where you are. It is about creating a space where we can understand how you got here, what you’ve had to carry, and what may be possible for you now.”

Psychodynamic Therapy for Adults and Couples in Southwest Florida

I work with adults and couples who may appear high-functioning on the outside, but internally feel anxious, disconnected, self-critical, overwhelmed, or stuck in repeating relationship patterns.

My approach is depth-oriented and psychodynamic. Rather than only focusing on symptoms, I help clients understand the emotional patterns, early experiences, and protective strategies that continue to shape how they feel, relate, and respond today.

How I Approach Therapy

Dr. Nicole McGuffin's Branding Project

“Therapy is a place where we can slow down, listen more closely, and begin to understand the patterns that have been hard to change alone.”

Dr. Nicole McGuffin

1. Understand the Pattern

Many people come to therapy because something keeps repeating — in relationships, emotions, self-doubt, or the way they respond under stress. My work begins with helping you understand those patterns with curiosity and care, rather than judgment.

2. Explore What Shaped You

Our early relationships and experiences often shape how we protect ourselves, connect with others, and make sense of who we are. In therapy, we look beneath the surface to better understand how the past may still be influencing the present.

3. Create Deeper Change

The goal is not simply to manage symptoms, but to create more room for emotional freedom, healthier relationships, and a more genuine sense of self. Over time, therapy can help you respond to life with more awareness, choice, and connection.

Yes. I am licensed and provide private, online therapy for adults and couples throughout Florida.

Online couples therapy can be effective when both partners have privacy, reliable internet, and a willingness to slow down the cycle long enough to understand what is happening between them.

The practice is private pay only, allowing for depth-oriented work without insurance restrictions.

I can provide a superbill for reimbursement.

Therapy begins with a consultation about what is bringing you in, what has felt difficult to change, and what you are hoping to understand or work through.

For individuals, the work often focuses on emotional patterns, relationship difficulties, self-worth, anxiety, developmental trauma, and long-standing ways of protecting or adapting.

For couples, the work focuses on the patterns that happen between partners in real time, especially around conflict, distance, repair, stress, and vulnerability.

The aim is not simply symptom management, but deeper emotional and relational change.
